Edward Waters Softball Finishes 4-2 at SIAC Crossover

Hoover, AL., -- The Edward Waters softball team played amazing on the diamond in the SIAC Crossover as they finished with a 4-2 record.

The Lady Tigers kicked off the tourney with a 2-1 loss to Spring Hill. Both teams were strong in the circle as Keivana Durand started the game for EWU and recorded 18 outs.

An error put Spring Hill on the board in the bottom of the first.

Klaire Spooner went 1-for-3 at the plate and led the team with one run batted in. Spooner, Kylah Gardner, Laura Scott, and Hailey Vela each collected one hit for Edward Waters. EWU stole three bases in the game.

The Lady Tigers then dropped a contest to Tuskegee, 16-4.

The Golden Tigers jumped out to the lead in the top of the first inning after Alarryn Beckley singled, scoring two runs, Ava Merideth doubled, scoring one run, Victoria Harrison singled, scoring one run, Nylah Strange-Lindley singled, scoring two runs, Tamiya Martin singled, scoring one run, and an error scored one run.

An error, and a tag up by Shanna McNair helped Tuskegee extend their early lead in the third.

Shai-Ann Currie pitched three innings in relief for the Lady Tigers and Riley Kapparis took the loss for EWU.

Kylah Gardner and Joy Duncan were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected two hits for Edward Waters. Gardner, Laura Scott, Hailey Vela, and Dazha Durand each drove in one run for EWU.

EWU then turned things around in game three against Lane College as they secured their first victory of the Crossover.

Keivana Durand was dominant in the circle, as the hurler rang up 11 strikeouts in the Lady Tigers 6-1 victory over Lane. Durand allowed one hit and one run over seven innings while walking two.

Kylah Gardner collected three hits in three at bats in the win. Gardner tripled in the fifth inning, doubled in the second inning, and singled in the seventh inning.

EWU got on the board in the top of the second inning after Hailey Vela doubled to center field, Olivia Friedel laid down a sacrifice bunt, and Laura Scott singled down the left field line, each scoring one run.

Miah Jordan collected two hits for Edward Waters in three at bats. EWU had patience at the plate, collecting four walks for the game. EWU also stole four bases in the game.

Kylah Gardner continued her strong play as she collected three hits in three at bats, as EWU's 9-1victory over KSU. Gardner hit a home run to center field in the sixth inning, doubled in the second inning, and doubled in the fourth inning.

Edward Waters got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Riley Kapparis drew a walk, scoring one run, Olivia Friedel drew a walk, scoring one run, and an error scored two runs.

EWU added to their early lead in the bottom of the second inning after Calyn Rounsaville singled to center field, and Kapparis grounded out, each scoring one run.

The Lady Tigers added one run in the third. Joy Duncan hit a sacrifice fly, making the score 7-1.

EWU scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth on a home run to center field by Gardner.

Kapparis earned the win for Edward Waters. The pitcher allowed two hits and one run over six innings, striking out five and walking three.

Dazha Durand collected two hits for the Lady Tigers in three at bats. Jodee Matos stole two bases. EWU had patience at the plate, tallying seven walks for the game. The Lady Tigers ran wild on the base paths, tallying five stolen bases for the game. Edward Waters turned one double play and didn't commit a single error in the field.

Edward Waters then dominated their 17-2 victory over LeMoyne-Owen.

EWU got on the board in the top of the first inning after Brooke Rice homered to left field, scoring three runs, and Victoria Miterko singled, scoring one run.

Three more EWU runs crossed the plate in the second inning to extend the lead to 7-0. Joy Duncan hit a solo home run to center field, Rice drew a walk, scoring one run, and Dazha Durand grounded out, scoring one run.

Edward Waters scored seven runs on six hits in the top of the fifth inning. Duncan doubled, scoring one run, Rice was struck by a pitch, driving in a run, Durand doubled, scoring two runs, Miterko doubled, scoring two runs, and Montana Hunt singled, scoring one run.

Shai-Ann Currie earned the win for EWU. The starter gave up nine hits and two runs over five innings, striking out four and walking none.

The Lady Tigers amassed 13 hits in the game. Duncan set the tone at the top of the lineup, leading EWU with three hits in four at bats. Durand and Miterko each drove in four runs for Edward Waters.

In the Lady Tigers final game of the SIAC Crossover, Hailey Vela drove in four runs on four hits to lead EWU past Miles 14-4. Vela tripled in the second inning, scoring three runs, and singled in the first inning, scoring one.
Edward Waters got on the board in the top of the first inning after Laura Scott doubled down the left field line, Brooke Rice walked, Dazha Durand walked, Riley Kapparis doubled to right field, and Vela singled to right field, each scoring one run.

The Lady Tigers scored five runs on three hits in the top of the second inning. An error scored one run, Vela tripled, scoring three runs, and Klaire Spooner singled, scoring one run.

Kapparis earned the win for EWU. The starter surrendered 12 hits and four runs over six innings, striking out two and walking two

The Lady Tigers tallied 16 hits in the game. Spooner, Kylah Gardner, Scott, Kapparis, and Joy Duncan each collected multiple hits for EWU. Rice and Durand led the team with two free passes each. Gardner, Vela, and Duncan each stole multiple bases for EWU. EWU ran wild on the base paths, tallying 11 stolen bases for the game.
