Jacksonville, FL., -- Edward Waters University named Brandon A. Wright Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance in February 2025. Wright is a highly experienced and versatile professional with a proven track record of success in football operations, coaching, and leadership roles. His career showcases a passion for the game, a commitment to developing student-athletes, and a knack for improving program performance, fundraising, and community engagement.Â
Wright's journey in football began as a Linebacker and Defensive Lineman at Stetson University, where he played a key role in building the program from the ground up. During his time as a player from 2012 to 2016, he assisted in playbook creation, implemented defensive strategies, and partnered with the Strength & Conditioning Coach. His contributions helped the defense consistently rank among the nation's best in tackles for loss, sacks, and turnovers.Â
Transitioning into coaching, Wright honed his skills at Franklin College as Defensive Backs coach. He quickly made an impact, with his film evaluations leading to the recognition of a Freshman of the Year and Defensive MVP. He then took his career abroad becoming the Head Coach/Defensive Coordinator for the North Coast Heat in Australia.Â
Returning to the States, Wright served as Defensive Line coach at Becker College where he helped the team lead the conference in multiple defensive categories. His career took a significant turn when he became the Defensive Coordinator at Middle Georgia State University. In this role, Wright spearheaded a remarkable turnaround, increasing the team's wins from 3 to 7 in a single season and securing a conference championship in 2018. He also coached the program's first Defensive All-American and consistently produced Defensive Players of the Week.Â
Wright's expertise extends beyond the field, demonstrated by his experience as an Offensive Analyst at Mercer University where he provided weekly defensive breakdowns and helped improve total yards, points per game, and passing efficiency. He then transitioned to Stetson University as the Director of Football Operations in May 2022. During his tenure, he streamlined onboarding processes for incoming players, organized preseason camps, managed team logistics and travel, and cultivated relationships with donors and alumni. Wright's efforts led to increased fundraising and enhanced community engagement. He held this role until January 2025.Â
Before dedicating his career to football, Wright gained valuable experience in the financial and business sectors. He worked as a Financial Sales Representative at Axa Advisors, providing retirement solutions and conducting investment seminars. Prior to that, he was an Assistant Branch Manager at Woodforest Bank, where he managed budgets, marketed business solutions, and motivated employees to achieve branch goals.Â
Wright holds an MBA in Management from Strayer University and a BS in Business Administration from Newberry College. His education and diverse professional background provide him with a unique perspective and skill set that he brings to his work in football.Â
