Jacksonville, FL., -- The Edward Waters men's basketball team got back in the win column with a 84-57 blowout victory over Allen in Saturday night's AME Roundball Rivalry inside the Adams-Jenkins Complex.
With the home win the Tigers improve to 15-7 on the season with an 11-4 mark in Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) play.
Bench points and points in the paint were huge for Edward Waters as they outscored Allen in both categories. EWU finished the game with 43 bench points and 38 points inside the painted area. The Tigers defense held the Yellowjackets to 36.7% shooting from the floor including 28.6% from three-point range while forcing 18 turnovers that led to 19 points for EWU.
After missing a few game due to an ankle injury, Prince Davies III led the Tigers with a game-high 17 points on 6-for-11 shooting from the field. Davies added four rebounds, two steals and an assist while knocking down two three-pointers and three free throws. Freshman Jaelen Nelson got the start and scored 14 points while nearly going perfect from the field shooting 6-for-7. Nelson chipped in three rebounds and connected on both his three-point shots.
Jeremiah Kwarteng led all the reserve scorers with 16 points with three huge, crowd roaring three-pointers to go along with a rebound, a block and a steal while going a perfect 3-for-3 from the foul line. D'Shun Edwards put in nine points, seven rebounds and two assists for EWU. RJ Noord notched five points with six assists, six rebounds and two steals.
EWU Head Men's Basketball Coach Cabral Huff was proud of how his team focused on the details and got everyone involved in the win. "Way to come home and establish our standards on both ends of the floor," expressed Huff. "Multiple guys stepped up including Jeremiah Kwarteng, D'Shun Edwards and Jaelen Nelson. Our focus on the details paid off in this win at home tonight."
The Tigers will take the floor again on Monday, February 10 with a SIAC home meeting against the visiting Benedict College Tigers. Tip off will be at 7:30 p.m. inside the Adams-Jenkins Complex just after the women's game at 5:30 p.m.
