Jacksonville, FL., -- The Edward Waters softball team collected a doubleheader sweep over Trinity Baptist College in their 2025 home opener on Tuesday afternoon at Nip Sams Parks.
Keivana Durand was dominant in the circle, as the starter rang up 13 strikeouts in the Lady Tigers 4-1, victory over the Eagles. Durand allowed zero hits and one run over seven innings while walking three.
EWU was the first to get on the board in the third when
Laura Scott grounded out, scoring one run. Piper Young took the loss for TBC. The pitcher went six innings, allowing four runs (three earned) on three hits, striking out none and walking one.
Brooke Rice,
Hailey Vela, and
Dazha Durand each collected one hit for Edward Waters. Rice, Scott, and Vela each drove in one run for the Lady Tigers and stole three bases in the game.
In the final game of the doubleheader, EWU got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Trinity Baptist committed an error,
Kylah Gardner walked, the Lady Tigers scored on a passed ball, TBCÂ committed an error, and Joy Duncan grounded out, each scoring one run.
The Lady Tigers extended their early lead with three runs in the bottom of the second thanks to RBI doubles by
Dazha Durand and Gardner.
Edward Waters scored seven runs on four hits in the bottom of the third inning.
Kaylah Newman singled, scoring two runs,
Brooke Rice drew a walk, scoring one run,
Hailey Vela singled, scoring two runs, an error scored one run, and
Jodee Matos singled, scoring one run.
Riley Kapparis earned the win for EWU. The starting pitcher allowed two hits and zero runs over five innings, striking out five and walking none. Jessica Johnson took the loss for Trinity Baptist. The pitcher went three innings, surrendering eight runs (three earned) on four hits, striking out three and walking five.
Durand provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Edward Waters with three runs batted in. The 3-hole hitter went 1-for-3 on the day. Vela led EWU with three hits in three at bats. Newman collected two hits for the Lady Tigers in two at bats. EWU had a strong eye at the plate, amassing nine walks for the game. Newman and Gardner led the team with two walks each. Newman,

The Lady Tigers will return to action Saturday, February 8 with a doubleheader scheduled against Keiser University. The opening game will start 1:00 pm followed by a 3:00 pm final cointest. All games will be held at EWU Softball Field at Nip Sams Park.Â
