Miami Shores, FL., -- The Edward Waters softball team dropped both ends of their midweek road doubleheader to Barry University on Wednesday, February 26 at Buccaneer Softball Field.
In the series opener EWU's effort to come back from down four runs in the fifth inning came up just short, as they fell 4-3 to Barry. The Lady Tigers scored three runs on a double in the sixth inning.
Barry was the first to get on the board in the third when Sarah Langlie doubled, scoring one run.
Alexis Martin earned the win for Barry. The starter gave up five hits and three runs over five innings, striking out seven and walking one.
Keivana Durand took the loss for EWU. The starting pitcher went six innings, giving up four runs on eight hits, striking out seven and walking two.
Brooke Rice drove the middle of the lineup, leading the Lady Tigers with three runs batted in. The cleanup hitter went 1-for-3 on the day.
Jamiah Holmes went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead EWU in hits.
The the series finale, Barry defeated Edward Waters, 10-1 thanks in part to eight runs in the first inning.
EWU was the first to get on the board in the first when an error scored one run.
Barry flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the first, scoring eight runs on six hits to take the lead, 8-1. The biggest blow in the inning was a single by Mac Slone-Folmer that drove in two.
Barry university added two runs in the third after Langlie doubled down the left field line.
Riley Kapparis pitched three innings in relief for EWU. The pitcher allowed two hits and two runs while, striking out three and walking one.
Shai-Ann Currie took the loss for Edward Waters as the starting pitcher went one inning, allowing eight runs (four earned) on six hits, striking out none and walking one.
Laura Scott and
Jamiah Holmes were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected one hit for EWU while hitting back-to-back.
