Atlanta, GA., -- The Edward Waters softball team secured a 2-1 road series victory over Clark Atlanta.
Keivana Durand was dominant in the circle, as the starting pitcher rang up 15 strikeouts in EWU's 4-1 series opening victory over Clark Atlanta on Saturday. Durand allowed three hits and one run over seven innings while walking three.
The Lady Tigers didn't take the lead until later in the game. The game was tied at one in the top of the fifth when
Kylah Gardner homered to center field, scoring three runs.
CAU was the first to get on the board in the first when Shemia Clady tripled, scoring one run.
Edward Waters captured the lead, 4-1, in the top of the fifth when
Kaylah Newman singled, scoring one run, and Gardner homered to center field, scoring three runs.
Makyla Bell took the loss for Clark Atlanta. The righty went seven innings, allowing four runs (zero earned) on five hits, striking out one and walking six.
Gardner provided a strong bat in the middle of the lineup, and led the Lady Tigers with three runs batted in. The right fielder went 2-for-4 on the day.
Jodee Matos led EWU with two walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, piling up six walks for the game. Newman stole four bases. EWU ran wild on the base paths, amassing five stolen bases for the game. The Lady Tigers turned one double play in the game and were sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error.
In the opening contest of Sunday's doubleheader EWU fell to CAU, 7-6 on the final play of the game. The game was tied at six in the bottom of the seventh when Tamia Polk singled, scoring one run.
Edward Waters got on the board in the top of the first inning after
Kylah Gardner tripled to center field, and Clark Atlanta committed an error, each scoring one run.
The Panthers tied the game in the bottom of the second thanks to an error, and a ground out by Rasheedah Hasan.
The LadyTigers took the lead in the top of the third.
Kaylah Newman grounded out, scoring one run, to give EWU the leg up, 3-2.
Clark Atlanta jumped into the lead in the bottom of the seventh when Johannas Bentley doubled, scoring two runs, an error scored one run, and Hasan singled, scoring one run.
Gerielle Hoke earned the win for CAU. The starting pitcher allowed five hits and five runs (one earned) over seven innings, striking out none and walking three.
Riley Kapparis took the loss for EWU. The pitcher went six innings, allowing seven runs (three earned) on five hits, striking out two and walking seven.
Aisha Joy Duncan led Edward Waters with two runs batted in. The outfielder went 1-for-2 on the day. Gardner,

Dazha Durand, and Duncan each collected one hit for the Lady Tigers.
In the doubleheader finale,
Jamiah Holmes collected three hits in three at bats, as EWU defeated Clark Atlanta University 11-3. Holmes tripled in the fourth inning, singled in the second inning, and singled in the fifth inning.
EWU was the first to get on the board in the first when
Brooke Rice homered to left field, scoring three runs.
Edward Waters added to their early lead in the top of the second inning after Holmes singled to center field,
Laura Scott singled down the right field line, and
Kaylah Newman grounded out, each scoring one run.
Shai-Ann Currie earned the win for EWU. The starting pitcher surrendered six hits and three runs (two earned) over five innings, striking out three and walking one. Makyla Bell took the loss for Clark Atlanta. The righty went one inning, giving up six runs on five hits, striking out none and walking two.
Rice drove the middle of the lineup, leading the Lady Tigers with three runs batted in. The right-handed hitter went 1-for-4 on the day.
Kylah Gardner collected two hits for EWU in three at bats. Scott and Holmes each stole multiple bases for EWU.
