Atlanta, GA., -- The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) offices placed their votes and selected Junior point guard Mia Morel as SIAC Women's Basketball Newcomer of the Week. This is Morel's fourth conference weekly honor as she was named Newcomer of the Week twice this season and Co-Player of the Week in November.

Morel has been making her presence felt on both ends of the court this season as her strong play has impacted the Lady Tigers, helping them to a 1-1 mark in games last week against Benedict and Clark Atlanta. Mia led Edward Waters with 17.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.0 blocks across both contests. Morel did most of her damage in a 63-57 loss to Clark Atlanta where she torched the Panthers for 23 points, three assists, two rebounds and two blocks with four made three-pointers across 36 minutes. The aggressive guard knocked down all 12 of her foul shots last week.

A native of Madison, Wisconsin, Morel has notched double figures in five of the Lady Tigers last seven games, with the squad going 4-3 during that span. Mia is averaging 12.5 points per game so far this season, seventh best the SIAC. Morel leads the league with 53 total three pointers made so far this season.
