Jacksonville, FL., -- The Edward Waters women's basketball got back to their winning ways after a 65-57 road Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) victory over Benedict on Saturday night in HRC Arena.
The win snapped a three game losing streak for the Lady Tigers as they improve to 10-6 on the season and 6-5 in conference play.
EWU got off to an explosive start outscoring Benedict 23-7 in the opening quarter highlighted by seven made threes. Every Lady Tiger that stepped on the court scored in the ball game which spoke to the team's chemistry and teamwork.
Majority of Edward Waters points came from their reserves as EWU outscored Benedict's bench, 38-29. Taniah Bowers and Tatum Hayes both finished with 11 points apiece. Bowers shot 4-for-5 from the field with two rebounds, two assists and two steals while knocking down her lone three pointer and both of her foul shots. Hayes went 3-for6 from beyond the arc with two rebounds. Nyekuar Quik chipped in six points and four rebounds.
Simona Henshaw put in eight points, six rebounds and one steal. E'laijha Brown scored seven points with a game high four assists, three steals and two rebounds. Mia Morel chipped in four points and six rebounds.
The Lady Tigers will continue their road trip with a AME Classic road match up against Allen University on Monday evening, January 27. Opening tip is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Inside the John Hurst Adams Gymnasium.
