Jacksonville, FL., -- The Edward Waters men's basketball team couldn't withstand a strong second half surge from the Clark Atlanta Panthers in their 63-61 home loss Monday night inside the Adams-Jenkins Complex.
The loss was just the first for the Tigers in the 2025 calendar year and just their first loss in their last six games. Edward Waters moves to 12-6 overall on the season and 8-3 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC).
EWU shot fairly well from the floor finishing the game shooting 43.4% (23-for-53). But they struggled from long range only connecting on three of their 19 attempts. But the visiting Panthers made their presence felt inside the painted area as they out rebounded the Tigers 39-28 and outscoring the Edward Waters 38-30.
Defensively, The Tigers forced 17 turnovers that led to 22 points from the home team. Even with EWU providing tenacious defensive pressure, the Panthers were able to shoot 51.7% (15-for-29) in thew second half.
Senior guard Ja'Kobe Williams finished the game with 19 points, six assists, four rebounds, two blocks and two steals. Fellow guard Jeremiah Kwarteng added 13 points with four rebounds. Amari Floyd was terrific defensively collecting four steals to go along with his eight points and six rebounds. Cyrus Huggard-Noel chipped in nine points.
Head Coach Cabral Huff commended his team's effort down the stretch but acknowledged his team's execution needed to be better. "We came out on the short end tonight as we just didn't do some things that we have to do to win," expressed Huff. "Give credit to Clark Atlanta for how they took it to us in the second half. They controlled the glass and points in the paint which ultimately decided the game."
Edward Waters will return to the court for a pair of road games against Benedict College and Allen University. The Tigers will visit the Benedict Tigers on Saturday, January 25th before making the trip to the Allen Yellow Jackets on Monday, January 27th.
