The Edward Waters Women's Volleyball Team fell in its season opening match against Virginia State in the Buccaneer Invitational. 

Despite having leads in the second and third sets the Lady Tigers were unable to maintain their lead as the Trojans used late surges to collect the sweep 25-18, 25-17, 25-19 over EWU. 

Senior outside hitter Naomy Vergez finished with a game-high 11 kills. She added three aces, nine digs and two assists. Fellow senior Malena Catala also notched three aces as she paced EWU with 11 assists to go along with seven digs. 

The Lady Tigers got solid contribution from everyone that touched the court. Alexis Simpson chipped in six kills and six digs and freshman Taylor Kennedy recorded kills. Brooklyn Jones compiled five digs and two kills. Dislandi Antonio finished the contest with eight assists, second best on the squad. 

Edward Waters will return to action with a double header tomorrow against Auburn University-Montgomery and Buccaneer Invitational host institution Barry University. Both matches will be held at the Health and Sports Center.
