Miami, FL., — The Edward Waters women's volleyball team rounded out the weekend with losses to Auburn University-Montgomery and Barry University to round out the Buccaneers Invitational. 

Although the Lady Tigers left the tournament without a win, they got solid contribution from their mix of experienced veterans and youthful core. 

In Saturday's first game, EWU took on a very experience AUM squad and fell straight sets, 25-16, 25-26, 25-14. Freshman Taylor Kennedy paced the Lady Tigers with six kills to go along with two blocks and two digs. Freshman Brooklyn Jones added three kills and tied a team-high with two service aces. 

Freshman Lauren Smith also collected services aces with one kill and one dig. Fellow freshman Autumn James notched seven digs and two kills while Jenieth Guzman secured five digs, an assist and a kill. Senior Naomy Vergez compiled four digs and two kills. Malena Catala led EWU with six assists and Dislandi Antonio finished with four assists. 

In the second match of the day against host institution Barry University, the Lady Tigers put forth a great effort but ultimately fell short, 25-12, 25-12, 25-22. Junior Alexis Simpson provided three kills, three digs and two service aces and senior Malena Catala chipped in a ten-best seven assists and five digs. 

The freshmen trio of Taylor Kennedy, Lauryn Smith and Norah Laurore all put together solid showings against Barry U. Kennedy added three kills, while Smith finished with three digs and Laurore notched two kills for the Lady Tigers.

Edwards Waters will return to action with a four game slate against Southern Arkansas, University of Arkansas, Monticello, Ouachita Baptist and Union University in the Union University Volleyball Classic in Jackson, Tennessee in the Fred DeLay Gymnasium.
