Jacksonville, FL., — The Edward Waters football team dropped their Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference home opening game 27-13 to the visiting Tuskegee Golden Tigers at Glover Field and Stadium today.
With the loss the Tigers move to 1-4 on the season and 1-2 in SIAC action.
After a Tuskegee field goal broke the scoring cap for both teams in the opening quarter, Keith Moore II found Johnny Jones II in the left corner of the end zone for a touchdown to put the Tigers ahead, 6-3.
Jones wasn't done with his scoring as he scooped up an Edward Waters fumble that he returned for a 53 yard touchdown to give the Tigers a 13-3 halftime lead.
Unfortunately, it would be the visiting Golden Tigers that would do all the scoring in the second half as they rattled off 24 second half points to claim the, 27-13 victory.
Moore finished with 172 yards passing with one touchdown and two interceptions. Kentrelle Williams paced the Tigers with 50 yards rushing. Raveon Moore led EWU with 48 yards receiving, followed by 44 yards through the air from both Jones and Fatoma Paulk.
Defensively, Widmyer Garçon led Edward Waters with nine total tackles. Defensive back Darrell Rolle added eight tackles including two tackles for loss and two pass break ups. Tyreese Williams and James Walton Jr both recorded sacks for the Tiger defense.
Edward Waters football will return to action Saturday, October 5th as the Fort Valley State Wildcats visit Glover Field and Stadium for a SIAC contest. The game will begin at 4:00pm.
