GAME PREVIEW: Edward Waters Football Set to Visit Benedict for Thursday Night Throwdown on ESPN 2

Jacksonville, FL., -- The Edward Waters football team will return to Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) action with a Tiger clash against Benedict College, Thursday night in Charlie W. Johnson Stadium in Columbia, S.C. The contest will begin at 8:00 pm and be broadcast to a national audience on ESPN2.

Both editions of the Tigers are coming off losses in week 3 action and are looking to pick up a huge victories in SIAC play.

SERIES HISTORY:
Saturday's meeting will be the 5th meeting all-time between the EWU and BC. Benedict has won the previous two match up between the squads including a 34-0 shutout victory over Edward Waters in. Jacksonville in 2023.

PREVIEWING EDWARD WATERS
The Edward Waters Tigers  are 1-2 so far on the season after losing their second straight contest last Saturday against Alcorn State. The Tigers had plenty positives to take away from the game despite to 38-7 final score. 

Offensively the Tigers were led by Junior quarterback Keith Moore II, who  finished with 108 total yards of offense, 64 passing and 44 rushing. Senior running back Kentrelle Williams scored the Tigers lone touchdown of the ball games as he finished with 41 yards on the ground. Overall Brady Tillman leads EWU's backfield with 135 rushing yards so far on the season. Johnny Jones leads the Tigers receiving corps with 80 yards so far this season. Tight ends Raveon Moore and Fatoma Paulk both have receiving touchdowns this season.

The Edward Waters defense has received well-rounded contribution from a variety of players. Defensive back Stephan French leads the squad with 18 total tackles to go along with one interception and one fumble recovery. Senior linebacker Widmyer Garçon is second on the squad with 15 tackles and one fumble recovery of his own. Also in the secondary, De'Angelo Sapp leads EWU with two interceptions, two tackles for loss and nine total tackles. Jonathan Nesbit has also tallied 13 tackles, including one tackle for loss.


PREVIEWING BENEDICT 
Benedict College, two-time defending SIAC Champions, were picked to finish fifth in the SIAC Preseason Coaches Poll, just one spot ahead of Edward Waters. Under first year head coach Ron Dickerson, Jr. the Tigers are currently sitting 0-2 on the season and 0-1 in SIAC actions after losses Virginia State and Lane to start the season. 

Quarterback Charles Simmons leads the Tigers in both passing and rushing in the early portion of the season. Simmons has thrown for 199 years and rushed for another 171 yards. Troy Hillman has added 69 receiving yards for the Tigers. First-Team All-SIAC defensive lineman Aaron Miller has racked up two tackles for losses, one sack and 11 total tackles. Ty'Metrius Patterson is third in the conference with 19 total tackles. 


NEXT GAME:
After four straight road games to start the season, Edward Waters will finally play inside the city of Jacksonville as they welcome in Tuskegee for an SIAC matchup Saturday, September 28 at Glover Field and Stadium.
