Box Score Lorman, MS — The Edward Waters football team battled against a hungry and inspired Alcorn State Braves squad that was hungry for their first victory of the season. The Braves defeated the Tigers 38-7 at the Spinks-Casem Stadium on Saturday evening.
The first half was a defensive stale mate as the Braves led just 10-0 at the halftime intermission. But Alcorn would come out of the locker room inspired by their home field crowd, rallying to score 14 points in each of the final two quarters of the ball game.
Keith Moore II got the start at quarterback for Edward Waters and finished the game leading the Tigers in both passing and rushing. Moore threw for 64 yard on 8/15 passing and two interceptions. Moore added a team-best 44 yard rushing on 13 rushes. Kentrelle Williams finished with 42 yards on the ground on 11 carries and scored the Tigers lone touchdown of the ballgame, his second rushing touchdown of the season. Sophomore Gregory Mango finished with 23 yards for EWU.
Deven Thompson led EWU with a season-high 57 receiving yards on just three receptions, including a 37 yard catch. Jaidyn Wilson added two catches for 18 total yards.
On the defensive side of the ball De'Angelo Sapp paced the Tigers with six total tackles during the contest. Widmyer Garçon, Dartrell Rolle and Stephan French all chipped in five tackles apiece with Rolle adding one tackle for a loss. Jamal Harvey-Jackson finished with three tackles while also forcing and recovering a fumble.
The Tigers will have a quick turnaround this week as they complete their early season road trip with a Thursday night game against the Benedict Tigers. The games will be played Thursday, September 19 at Charlie W. Johnson Stadium at 8:00pm. The game will be nationally televised.
