Box Score Atlanta, GA — The Edward Waters football team made history as they celebrated their first ever victory as an official Division II institution with a 28-11 defeat of Morehouse College Saturday afternoon inside B.T. Harvey Stadium. The Tigers also collected a school record nine turnovers including five interceptions and four forced fumbles as they improved to 1-0 on the season for the first time since 2001.
EWU begins Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) action with a 1-0 start after the Tiger defense shutout the Maroon Tigers offense in the second half.
Senior defensive back De'Angelo Sapp recorded two interceptions for the Tigers. Sophomore safety Stephan French also picked off one pass and secured on fumble recovery as well. Defensive lineman Davari Williams, Senior linebacker Widmyer Garcon and corner back Darryl Roberts all gathered one takeaway apiece.
Junior quarterback Juwan Dent and sophomore running back Gregory Mango both scored rushing touchdowns for Edward Waters. Junior tight end and Atlanta native Raveon Moore scored the first Tiger touchdown of the 2024 season on a short pass in the first half.
The Tigers will return to action with another road trip as they travel to Miami Gardens for a clash with rival Florida Memorial. The game will be Saturday, September 7 at the Betty T. Ferguson Recreational Complex with kickoff scheduled for 1:00pm.
