PREVIEWING EDWARD WATERS
The Edward Water Tigers have improved in the win column every season under head coach
Toriano Morgan. The Tigers are also coming off their strongest SIAC performance since joining the conference in 2021. Don't let last season's 6-4 record fool you. EWU finished 5-3 in conference play and is looking to make their presence felt after being selected to finish sixth in the Preseason polls.
Edward Waters returns a host of veteran leadership on both sides of the ball. Junior wide receiver
Johnny Jones, who earned an HBCU Preseason All-American nod as well as being named to the Black College Football Player of the Year Watchlist, will look to lead the Tigers passing attack. Offensive linemen
Dylan Lampkin and
Jamari Pierre were also All-SIAC preseason selections and have been two of the most reliable and effective players in the conference over the past couple seasons.
The defense will be led by Widmyer Garcon, a dependable leader on the Tigers and the lone All-SIAC player from that side of the ball. Garcon finished sixth in the conference in tackles last season. The Tigers will also have a veteran presence in the secondary as defensive backs
De'Angelo Sapp and
Stephan French look to rise to the occasion this upcoming season.
PREVIEWING MOREHOUSE
Morehouse College recently hired NFL veteran Terance Mathis as their head coaching for the upcoming 2024 season after finishing last season with a record of 1-9 and 1-7 in the conference. The Maroon Tigers feature two All-SIAC second-team selections in Isaiah Reaves and Seve Spruill II.
NEXT GAME:
Rivalry week is on the horizon as Edward Waters hits the road to Miami Gardens for an in-state showdown with Florida Memorial. The game will be held on Sept. 7 at Betty T. Ferguson Recreational Complex.
