Albany, Georgia-For the second consecutive contest at the 2024 Cricket SIAC Baseball Championships, the #3 seeded Tigers of Edward Waters used some early offense and another complete game pitching effort to earn a 4-2 victory over the #2 seed Spring Hill in a Winners's Bracket matchup Friday morning at the Albany State West Campus Baseball Complex.
The scoring started in the top of the first inning for the Purple & Orange (29-18, 21-11 SIAC) on
Leonel Garcia's two-RBI single that gave the Tigers an early 2-0 lead. Edward Waters added to their advantage in the top of the second as a Spring Hill (31-20, 25-7 SIAC) balk called, allowed
Ferante Cowart to come home.
Daquarius Thompkins also hit an RBI single in the inning, making it a 4-0 lead for the Tigers.
The Badgers got on the board in the bottom of the fourth inning, on an RBi double to cut the EWU lead to 4-1. Later in the bottom half of the eighth, with bases loaded, SHC hit into a double play but a run was able to score to halve the contest at 4-2. Edward Waters starter
Alexander Davila and the Tigers were able to close the door on the Badgers in the bottom of the ninth to earn the victory and advance further in the Winner's Bracket. Since returning to the conference in 2021, this was just the second time in six meetings that Edward Waters was able to claim a victory over Spring Hill.

Leonel Garcia each went 2-for-4 at the dish for Edward Waters, with Garcia leading the way in RBI's with two.

Erickson Matos, and
Ferante Cowart also recorded hits in the contest for the Tigers as well,
Tiger starter
Alexander Davila had a complete game effort in the contest for the Tigers, running his 2024 record to 8-3 on the season. Davila finished the contest going 9.0 innings, scattering six hits, allowing just two earned runs, walking three, and striking out four.
Edward Waters will advance to a matchup against the winner of the #1 Albany State/#2 Savannah State contest tomorrow morning at 10:00am, where the winner will advance to the Championship Round.
