Jacksonville, Florida-Eight seniors took part in their final home contest on Saturday afternoon as Edward Waters played Benedict in the last of a three-game series. The Purple & Orange were able to capture a sweep of the series, taking down Benedict 4-2 to keep pace with Fort Valley State in the SIAC East Division standings.
Edward Waters (28-13, 12-4 SIAC) had to fight back from an early hole as Benedict (8-23, 5-13 SIAC) hit the scoreboard first in the top of the third inning, scoring on a fielder's choice. The Lady Tigers were able to get their act together in the bottom of the fourth inning, when
Jodasea Peterson connected on a single to left field, and
Laura Scott hit an RBI sacrifice fly to capture the lead at 2-1.Â
The visitors were able to knot the score up in the top of the fifth on a sacrifice bunt, but EWU was able to rise up and rally in the bottom of fifth. A
Gracie Mejia RBI double, and a
Kylah Gardner RBI single gave the Lady Tigers the lead again at 4-2, that they were able to see through to victory.
Peterson in her final home game, got the victory in the circle for Edward Waters, going 4.0 innings, and striking out five, while
Milani Sablan picked up her first save of the season, appearing in relief.
Edward Waters will travel across town on Monday to the Westside to battle Trinity Baptist in a doubleheader. First pitch is slated for 5:00pm.
