Lady Tigers Split Tuesday Doubleheader With Barry

Jacksonville, Florida-With rain in the forecast on Tuesday, Edward Waters welcomed the Buccaneers of Barry University to town for a non-conference doubleheader. Due to the rains from the weekend that caused some draining issues at Nip Sams Park, the contests were played at the new Bragan Softball Complex at Fort Family Regional Park on the Southside. The Lady Tigers were able to rise to the occasion to take Game One, 4-1 but the visitors took Game Two, 9-0 in five innings, splitting the two contests.

GAME ONE: Edward Waters 4, Barry 1:
The visitors from Miami got drew first blood in the top of the first inning with an RBI single to left field. Edward Waters was able to return the favor in the bottom half of the first on an RBI single from Katie Goodin to tie the score up at 1-1. The Lady Tigers added to their advantage in the bottom of the third when Laura Scott hit an RBI single to right field, and a Jade Mention RBI fielder's choice brought home Kayla Saunders to make it a 3-1 EWU lead. Another EWU run crossed home plate in the bottom of the fourth on a passed ball that scored Gracie Mejia that added to the lead at 4-1. EWU was able to cruise from there to earn a 4-1 victory in the opener.

Jodasea Peterson earned her seventh victory of the season going 7.0 innings, allowing five hits, no earned runs, and struck out two Buccaneers.

GAME TWO: Barry 9, Edward Waters 0 (5 Inn.):
The Lady Tigers had to deal with an angry group of Buccaneers and the rain in Game Two, which made for a difficult combination. Barry scored two runs in the second inning, and had a huge inning in the top of the fourth with seven runs. Edward Waters could not respond, as the Bucs won the second contest in five innings.

Caitlynne Lamug and Jade Mention were the only Lady Tigers to record hits in the contest. Shai-Ann Currie was charged with the loss going 3.0 innings, allowing 10 hits, eight earned runs, and struck out one.

Edward Waters returns to SIAC competition on Friday and Saturday with a road three-game series against Albany State. Friday's contest will be a doubleheader that will start at 1:00pm, while Saturday's single game will also begin at 1:00pm.
