Fort Valley, Georgia-The Edward Waters men's volleyball squad met up with Saint Francis (PA) in a non-conference, neutral site matchup at the HPE Arena at Fort Valley State. The Tigers fought valiantly but ultimately were swept in three straight games (14-25, 19-25, 20-25).
Edward Waters (4-7, 1-0 SIAC) started out Set #1 in a 4-0 hole, before the Tigers rallied to come to within one at 5-4. That would be as close as the Tigers would get as Saint Francis (10-6, 4-0 NEC) would take the opening set. Set Two went back and forth, but a 5-0 run gave the Red Flash all they would need to take the set 25-19. With a chance at a sweep, SFU got off to a blistering 12-2 start in the final set and never looked back. The Red Flash never let the lead get below four to claim the sweep by a set three score of 25-20.
Errors hampered the Tiger efforts in the contest with 22 of them against the Purple & Orange, affecting their .096 hitting percentage, while SFU hit .329 in the contest.
Tavion Ford led Edward Waters with 11 kills, while
Richard Hendricks had nine.
Kenyon Haynes dished out 21 assists, while
Aleksander Sobik had seven digs for the Tigers.
Edward Waters begins a three-game road trip on Friday in an SIAC matchup against Kentucky State at 6:00pm.
