Orange Park, Florida-Edward Waters brought an emphatic end to their home three-game series against Tuskegee on Saturday afternoon. The Tigers swept both games of their doubleheader with the Maroon Tigers by scores of 13-1 in Game One, and 12-3 in Game Two, locking up a sweep of all three games in a series played at Ridgeview High School.
GAME ONE: Edward Waters 13, Tuskegee 1 (7 Inn.):
The Tigers came out of the gates swinging to start the contest, plating the first four runs of the contest in the bottom of the first inning.
Eric Green earned an RBI on a bases loaded walk,
Torry Jones had an RBI single,
Anthony Roman scored on a passed ball, and a
Caden Hutchinson RBI sacrifice fly, gave Edward Waters the early 4-0 lead. In the bottom of the second, Green had another RBI single to extend the Tiger lead to 5-0.
Tuskegee got on the scoreboard in the top of the fourth inning on an RBI single to center field, but in the bottom half of the inning, Edward Waters got to work bringing home seven more runs. Roman had a bases loaded walk to earn an RBI, Green added to his RBI tally with a two-RBI single, Jones and
Leonel Garcia had RBI singles, and
Daquarius Thompkins had an RBI sac fly to take a commanding 12-1 lead.Â
EWU added the final run of the contest in the bottom of the fifth when Roman came home on another Tuskegee passed ball to add to the lead a 13-1. The contest was ended in the top of the seventh inning via the 10-run mercy rule, giving the Tigers the dominant victory,
Jones led the Tigers going 3-for-4 with two RBI's and a run scored, while Green finished 2-for-3 with four RBI's and two runs scored. Tiger ace
Alexander Davila remained perfect on the season, moving his record to 4-0 on the year on the mound. The senior allowed just six hits and one earned run, while recording five strikeouts.
GAME TWO: Edward Waters 12, Tuskegee 3:
The visitors dictated the contest over the first 4.5 innings of Game Two of the doubleheader, scoring the first three games of the game. The Golden Tigers scored one run in the first, one in the second, and one in the top of the fifth to take a 3-0 advantage. The Edward Waters offense finally woke up in the bottom of the fifth, scoring four runs.
Isaiah Montes connected on an RBI single,
J. C. Medina earned an RBI reaching on a error that allowed
Hugo Schoening to score, and
Torry Jones and
Chase Morris each RBI's on a singles to take their first lead of the contest at 4-3.
The EWU offense exploded even more in te bottom of the sixth with eight runs scored in the contest.
Hugo Schoening hit a towering three-run homer, Jones earned another RBI on a fielder's choice,
Misael Ramos had a bases loaded walk to earn an RBI,
Ferante Cowart had an RBI single, and
Dave Mitchum smacked a two-RBI single to take a 12-3 lead that they were able to see through to victory and the three-game sweep.
Ferante Cowart led the Tigers at the plate, going 2-for-4 with an RBI and and a run scored.
Jeremy Nieves took the win on the mound going 3.2 innings, allowing five hits, one earned run, walked three, and struck out three.
Edward Waters hits the road on for another three-game SIAC set against Miles College on Saturday and Sunday in Alabama.
