Jacksonville, Florida-Edward Waters saw their brief two-game losing skid emphatically come to an end on Friday evening, courtesy of a straight sets 3-0 sweep of SIAC rival Central State at the Adams-Jenkins Complex.
The two teams had a marathon first set to open the contest, with Edward Waters (9-13, 6-1 SIAC) coming out on top 26-24. The Tigers steamrolled Central State (5-13, 4-4 SIAC) 25-16 in Set Two, and cruised to a 25-19 Set Three win to earn their second sweep of the Marauders this season.
Edward Waters had a dominant night in all phases, outhitting the Marauders .270 to .148 in. the match. The Tigers also had 43 kills, four service aces, four blocks, 40 assists, and 35 digs which were key in their victory.
Tavion Ford led all players with 19 kills, while also adding two service aces to his tally.
Jackson Mandell led EWU with four blocks,
Kenyon Haynes had a match high 33 assists, and
Richard Hendricks had a double-double effort with 13 kills and 12 digs.
Edward Waters will wrap up their quick two-game SIAC homestand on Saturday afternoon as they host the Thorobreds of Kentucky State at 1:00pm at the Adams-Jenkins Complex.
