Lake Wales, Florida-Edward Waters stepped out of conference competition Wednesday afternoon in a road match against Warner University. The Tigers fought hard, pushing the match to five sets but unfortunately came up short, falling 3-2.
Edward Waters (8-13, 5-1 SIAC) raced out to a 25-18 win in Set #1 before the Royals (8-14, 3-5 TSC) responded with victories in the next two sets. The Tigers came back to take Set #4 25-13, forcing a fifth and decidinng set. Despite EWU's best efforts, the Purple & Orange came up short, dropping the final set 15-10 and the match 3-2.
The Tigers had issues with errors in the match, racking up 29 of them which wreaked havoc on their overall hitting percentage of .152 for the match. Warner was slightly better in hitting percentage with a .195. The Royals took a 56-48 edge in kills, 7-1 in service aces, 17-9 in blocks, 54-45 in assists, and 40-37 in Digs.
Tavion Ford led the Tigers with 15 total kills, followed by
Aleksander Sobik with nine and
Dillon Taylor with seven.
Kenyon Haynes led EWU with seven total blocks and 39 assists in the match, while
Richard Hendricks led the Tigers in digs with 10.
Edward Waters finally returns home for a two-game SIAC homestand beginning on Friday, March 29th against Central State starting at 6:00pm at the Adams-Jenkins Complex.
