Four Game Winning Streak Snapped In Home Loss To Thomas

Orange Park, Florida-Coming into Tuesday evening's home game with Thomas, Edward Waters seemed to have found their groove, winning their last four contests and seven of their last eight outings. Unfortunately for the Tigers, they were their own worst enemy in their 13-5 loss to the Nighthawks at the Ridgeview High School Baseball Complex.

The Tigers (14-11) were able to crack the scoreboard first in the bottom of the first inning, thanks to J. C. Medina's RBI sacrifice fly to center field that gave EWU an early 1-0 lead. Thomas (18-12) fired back with two runs in the top of the third inning on an RBI double and a bases loaded walk to to take their first lead of the contest at 2-1. Edward Waters clawed their way back to even in the bottom of the fourth when Chase Morris came home to score on a wild pitch to tie the contest up at 2-2.

From that point on, things went quickly south for Edward Waters as the Nighthawks scored two runs in the top of the fifth and effectively put the game out of reach in the top of the sixth with five runs coming home. The Purple & Orange brought two runs back in the bottom of the seventh on an RBI single from Jeremy Nieves and an RBI fielder's choice from Eric Green. The visitors from Georgia plated three more runs in the top of the eighth inning making it an 12-4 ballgame. Chase Morrise connected on an RBI single to center field in the bottom of the eighth, but Thomas brought that run back in the bottom of the ninth on an RBI single.

Cameron Chastain took the loss for Edward Waters in the contest on the mound in relief.

Edward Waters will look to get back on track this weekend in Memphis, Tennessee as they return to SIAC play against the Magicians of LeMoyne-Owen.  A doubleheader will start things on Saturday at 12pm, followed by a single contest on Sunday, also at 12:00pm.
