Hardeeville, South Carolina-A rough bottom of the sixth inning for Edward Waters proved to be their undoing in a 6-3 road loss to USC Beaufort on Wednesday afternoon at the Richard Gray Complex.
Edward Waters (2-2) faced an early 1-0 hole during the bottom half of the first inning, but were able to respond in the top of the third.
Torry Jones' RBI single tied things up at 1-1, then an inning later, RBI singles from
Hugo Schoening and
Erickson Matos padded the Tiger lead by two at 3-1.
The Tigers held on to the lead until the bottom of the sixth inning when USCB (3-1) plated four runs. A bases loaded walk and a three RBI double allowed the Sand Sharks to take the lead for good at 5-3. USCB added an insurance run in the bottom of the 8th to add to their lead at 6-3 which they were able to close out en route to victory.
Edward Waters had a rough showing at the plate as a team going just 7-of-33 and striking out 11 times. Isaiah Motes was the only Tiger ro record a multi-hit game offensively going 2-for-4 at the dish.
Jeremy Nieves took the loss in relief of starter
Elvin Polanco, going 2.2 innings, allowing three hits, four earned runs, three walks, and one strikeout. Polanco went 3.0 innings to start, allowing three hits, one earned. run, one walk, and one strikeout.
The Tigers will try their luck again on Friday as they will head to Denmark, South Carolina to face both Harris-Stowe State at 12:00pm, and Voorhees at 3:00pm.
