Jacksonville, Florida-Looking to capture a series sweep and get back to .500 in SIAC play, Edward Waters hosted Lane College on Sunday afternoon at Ridgeview High School. Two big innings from the visitors and a late comeback from the Tigers proved to be too tall of a task to overcome in their 8-5 loss.

Lane (4-9, 3-3 SIAC) got the scoring started in the top of the second inning with a two-RBI double, and two RBI singles to take a 4-0 lead. The Dragons added four more runs in the top half of the third on an RBI fielder's choice and a bases clearing, three-RBI triple to double up their advantage to 8-0.

Lane starter Thomas Touchette carried a no-hitter to the bottom of the third, but Tiger second baseman Dave Mitchum brought an end to that with a two-RBI double to cut the deficit to six at 8-2. Mitchum added to his RBI tally in the bottom of the fifth, connecting on his first solo homer of the season to make it an 8-5 contest. Leonel Garcia came home on a passed ball in the bottom of the sixth and Daiton Pass hit his second homer of the weekend on a solo shot in the bottom of the ninth, but it was not enough as EWU dropped the series finale.

Mitchum and Garcia were the only Tigers who had multi-hit games with two hits apiece. Starter Sebastian Velez was tagged with his second loss of the early season, going 2.2 innings, allowing six hits, eight earned runs, two walks and hit two batters. Reliever Jeremy Nieves was solid in relief going 5.1 innings, allowing five hits, one walk, and struck out two.

Edward Waters will look to rebound in their next action on Tuesday against USC Beaufort in a non-conference affair on Tuesday at 3:00pm at FSCJ North Campus.
