GAME PREVIEW: Edward Waters Football Set to Visit Albany State for Huge SIAC Contest

Jacksonville, FL., -- After  three home games in four weeks, the Edward Waters football team will look to get back in the win column as they make the quick road trip  in the Savannah State Tigers into Nathaniel Glover Stadium for a home Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) contest.

SERIES HISTORY:
Edward Waters and Savannah State have been playing each other since EWU entered the SIAC and ASU holds the all-time series lead 2-1. The Tigers 31-27 victory in 2023 was Edward Waters first ever win over Albany State. 

PREVIEWING EDWARD WATERS
The Edward Waters Tigers  are 1-6 so far on the season after falling in their third consecutive home meeting Saturday, October 19th against Savannah State, 27-20. Offensively the Tigers are led by junior quarterback Juwan Dent, who has threw for 142 total yards with a rushing touchdown against Savannah State. The ground game has been a committee led approach as Kentrelle Williams (268), Brady Tillman (224), Gregory Mango (177),  and Johntarrious Thomas (123) have all rushed for over 100 yards this season. Preseason All-American Johnny Jones leads the Tigers in both catches with 24 and receiving yards at 274. Jones has also added 107 total punt return yards and 139 total kick return yards. The tight end combo of Fatoma Paulk and Raveon Moore have both added a couple touchdown receptions so far on the year. Junior Makai Lovett is leading EWU with 19.38 yards per catch on the season. 

Edward Waters is currently ranked sixth in the conference in total defense and first in the SIAC in passing defense. EWU is also ranked third in the conference in total interceptions led by two interceptions apiece from sophomore Stephan French and De'Angelo Sapp. French is also second on the team in tackles with 39, 18th best in the league. Senior Widmyer Garçon ranks 14th in the SIAC with a team-leading 44 total tackles. Jonathan Nesbit has compiled 32 total tackles and Datrell Rolle has added 25 tackles on the season.
 

PREVIEWING ALBANY STATE
The Albany State Golden Rams come into this SIAC matchup with a 4-3 overall record and an 4-1 mark in conference play after a commanding 52-6 Homecoming victory over Morehouse. Offensively, the Golden Rams are led by quarterback Isaiah Knowles who has thrown for 1,857 yards and 24 touchdowns. Knowles averages 265 yards passing per game and has only thrown five interceptions. Running backs Tiant Wyche (378 yards, 2 TD) and Dajon Richard (340 yards, 4 TD) have been splitting the rushing duites for Albany State. Javion Jackson leads the Golden Rams pass catchers with has 442 receiving yards to go along with six touchdowns. Devon Dorsey has added 423 yards and recorded seven touchdowns.

Defensively, Aydin Henningham and Akil Lampley lead the Golden Rams with 25 tackles and one interception apiece. Andrew Ruffin leads Albany State with three sacks on the season to go along with 23 total tackles. 

NEXT GAME:
The Edward Waters Tigers will complete their 2024 road season with a trip to Jackson, TN for a road conference match up against Lane College next Saturday, November 2 at Lane Field. The game will take place at 3:00 pm (EST).
