Jacksonville, FL., -- After a much needed bye week, the Edward Waters football team will look to get back to their winning ways as they welcome in the Savannah State Tigers into Nathaniel Glover Stadium for a home Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) contest. 

COACHING MATCHUP:

Savannah State: Aaron Kelton, 3rd Season (10-16)

Edward Waters: Toriano Morgan, 4th Season (16-22)

SERIES HISTORY:
 Edward Waters and Savannah State have been playing each other since 1930 and EWU leads the all-time series 13-11-4. The last two contests have been very close with a difference of four points after EWU's 26-25 victory in 2023 and SSU's 31-28 win in 2022. 

PREVIEWING EDWARD WATERS
The Edward Waters Tigers  are 1-5 so far on the season after falling in second consecutive home meeting Saturday, October 5th against Fort Valley State, 48-14. Offensively the Tigers are led by junior quarterback Juwan Dent, who has threw for 256 total yards with a touchdown against the Wildcats. The ground game has been a committee led approach as Brady Tillman (203), Gregory Mango (177), Kentrelle Williams (145) and Johntarrious Thomas (120) have all rushed for over 100 yards this season. Preseason All-American Johnny Jones leads the Tigers in both catches with 20 and receiving yards at 227. Jones also added his first two touchdowns of the season against Tuskegee. The tight end combo of Fatoma Paulk and Raveon Moore have both added a couple touchdown receptions so far on the year. Senior Deven Thompson is leading EWU with 16.22 yards per catch on the season. 

Edward Waters is currently ranked sixth in the conference in total defense and first in the SIAC in passing defense led by two interceptions apiece from sophomore Stephan French and De'Angelo Sapp. French is also second on the team in tackles with 34, 17th best in the league. Senior Widmyer Garçon ranks 13th in the SIAC with a team-leading 36 total tackles. Jonathan Nesbit has compiled 29 total tackles and Datrell Rolle has added 24 tackles on the season.
 

PREVIEWING FORT SAVANNAH STATE
The Savannah State Tigers come into this SIAC match up with a 3-3 overall record and an 2-2 mark in conference play after back-to-back victories over top-ranked Clark Atlanta 35-28 and Lincoln University, 30-18. Offensive the Tigers Jhaydon Sullivan and Christian Burks have been sharing the quarterback duties. Sullivan has thrown for 400 yards and six touchdowns while Burks has 391 yards and one touchdown. Running backs Joseph Hampton (123 yards, 1 TD) and Shamarcus Poole (109 yards, 2 TD) are dangerous when they get the ball.  Da'Shun Mitchell has 340 receiving yards while Brent Carr has 195 and Demeke Colbert has 152. The trio has combined for six touchdowns.

Defensively, Sophomore Xavier Esquillen is playing well at defense end with six tackles for loss and four sacks while William Jones had 4.5 tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks. Leading the squad in tackles are linebackers Darrian Bell (43), Uchenna Nwoha (34), Gary Davis, Jr. (27) and Tavare Brewton (25).

NEXT GAME:
The Edward Waters Tigers will hit the road for a road conference match up against Albany State next Saturday, October 26  at Albany State University Colesium. The game will take place at 2:00 pm.
