Jackson, Tennessee-The calendar turned to a new year, but unfortunately the Lady Tigers' offensive struggles from the latter part of 2023 followed them to the early part of 2024 as EWU dropped a 62-47 SIAC road decision to Lane on Thursday evening.
Edward Waters (4-8, 2-4 SIAC) appeared to be up for the contest in the first quarter of play. After falling behind 8-0 in the first three minutes of the contest, the Purple & Orange rallied back with a 9-1 run of their own to tie the contest at 9-9 with 3:48 remaining. The two teams would ultimately end the first quarter of action at 12-12, but that would be the only signs of life from the Lady Tigers in the contest. The second quarter of play was one to forget for EWU as Lane (5-6, 3-2 SIAC) outscored the Lady Tigers 18-5 to take a 30-17 lead going into the locker room at the break.
The visitors tried to chip into the lead in the third quarter, cutting the deficit down to as little as six points late in the quarter, ultimately trailing 42-35 going to the final quarter. The Dragons quickly thwarted the Lady Tiger comeback attempt, outscoring EWU 20-12 in the quarter to run away with the victory and send EWU to their third straight loss.Â
The Lady Tigers were outshot by Lane 41% to 23% in the contest, including a 30% to 26% deficit in three-point shooting. Edward Waters was able to outrebound 46-44 and did also have a 13-7 edge on the offensive boards.
Khadija Smith was the lone Lady Tiger in double figures on the evening with 10 points.
Imani Harris chipped in with eight points and six boards, and
Jourdan Avery finished with seven points and six rebounds.
EWU will look to get back in the win column in their next action on Saturday, January 6th as the will face LeMoyne-Owen at 4:00PM EST in Memphis.
