Jacksonville, Florida-An incredible second half offensive outburst from Edward Waters pushed them to a season opening 4-2 victory over Bluefield University on Friday afternoon at Glover Community Field & Stadium.
It did not take long for the Purple & Orange (1-0) to hit the scoreboard as newcomer
Katharina Weigl opened the scoring just two minutes into the contest for EWU to take an early 1-0 lead. It appeared that the Lady Tigers would be destined to go into the locker room with the lead, but the visiting Rams (0-1) scored with just six minutes remaining until halftime to knot the score up at 1-1.
Edward Waters turned up the offensive intensity in the second half, thanks to goals from newcomer
Dahien Cabrera in the 47th and 65th minutes respectively to allow the Lady Tigers to retake the lead at 3-1. Redshirt freshman
Miniya Browning scored her first collegiate goal in the 67th minute to push the EWU advantage to three at 4-1. The Rams tallied a goal late at the 76th minute to cut the deficit in half, but Edward Waters was able to prevail with a relatively comfortable two goal victory,
Edward Waters peppered the Bluefield defense with shot after shot in the match, outshooting the Rams 20-3 and owning possession throught the contest.
The Lady Tigers will return to the home pitch on Wednesday, September 5th at 2:00pm against rival Allen University.
