Lady Tigers Pick Up First Clean Sheet With Shutout Of Florida College

Jacksonville, Florida-Edward Waters did not allow a two hour weather delay affected their dominating play as the Lady Tigers continued their program best start to the season and undefeated mark. The Lady Tigers also picked up their first clean sheet of the season with a convincing 5-0 victory over visiting Florida College in a women's soccer contest on Thursday evening at the Nathaniel Glover Community Field & Stadium.

The Purple & Orange (4-0-1) and the visiting Falcons (0-4-1) were just 15 minutes from their originally scheduled 4:00pm kickoff before both squads were sent back to their respective dressing rooms due to a late afternoon thundershower that swept through Northwest Jacksonville and forced a delay to the start of the match. Two hours later, the two teams reappeared and the home team flexed their dominance from the opening whistle.

Sophia Paffrath got the scoring started in the 21st minute, connecting on the opposite end of a corner kick from Claudia Mate to give the Lady Tigers a 1-0 lead. Eight minutes later in the 29th minute, Dahien Cabrera scored her first goal of the match to extend the Edward Waters lead to 2-0, a margin the Lady Tigers would carry into the halftime break.

Cabrera picked up her second goal and team leading eighth goal of the match in the 53rd minute, adding to the advantage at 3-0. The Edward Waters onslaught continued in the 72nd minute when reserve forward Miniya Browning put a header past the Florida College goal keeper, giving the Lady Tigers a 4-0 lead. Just before the end of contest, in the 89th minute, Jaeda Wilson scored her second goal of the season to cap things off and give Edward Waters their first shutout win of 2023.

Edward Waters had 22 shots in the match with seven being on target, while Florida College had nine total shots with four being on goal. Dahien Cabrera led the EWU efforts with five shots, two being on goal, and also added an assist to her tally. Starting goalkeeper Sheila Pascual returned between the pipes for EWU after missing the past to games and recorded four saves while also picking up her first clean sheet of the season.

The Lady Tigers continue their homestand on Sunday, September 17th at 2:00pm as they will host HBCU foe Albany State at Glover Community Field & Stadium.
