Women's Soccer Remains Undefeated With Dominant Home Victory Over Johnson & Wales

Jacksonville, Florida-The Edward Waters women's soccer squad continued their impressive start to the 2023 season on Sunday afternoon with a dominant 7-2 home victory over Johnson & Wales (Charlotte) at Glover Community Field & Stadium. The squad's seven goals in the match were tied for the third most in the four year history of the program, going along with a 7-2 victory over Trinity Baptist in 2021.

The Lady Tigers (3-0-1) hit the scoreboard early, scoring three goals within the first five minutes of the match. Dahien Cabrera opened things up in the fifth minute, scoring on a breakaway to give EWU an early 1-0 lead. Angelina Joia hit the scoreboard two minutes later in the seventh minute to double up the lead at 2-0, then another two minutes. later, Fernanda Soto added a goal in the ninth minute to give Edward Waters a 3-0 lead.  Johnson & Wales (1-2-0), added a goal in the 29th minute of the match to cut the deficit back to two at 3-1, which was the scoreline at halftime.

Edward Waters got back in the scoring swing in the 52nd minute on Jaeda Wilson's first goal of the season to push the lead back up to three at 4-1. Two minutes later, in the 54th minute, the visitors got on the scoreboard again to cut it to a 4-2 deficit. The Lady Tigers scored the last three goals of the contest to put things out of reach. Lara Vierig in the 69th, Alyha Velazquez Diaz in the 72nd, and Rayven Norman in the 83rd minutes respectively, each scored their first goals of the season to effectively seal the contest and give the Lady Tigers a dominant five goal victory.

EWU had 30 total shots in the contest compared to six for Johnson & Wales. Reserve freshman goalkeeper Natalia Magharus got her second consecutive start of the season and her second victory to her sheet.

The Lady Tigers will continue their homestand on Thursday, September 14th with a 4:00pm kickoff against Florida College at Glover Community Field & Stadium.
