Tigers Winning Streak Snapped At Six With Road Loss At Embry-Riddle

Daytona Beach, Florida-Five fielding errors and nine runners left on base were a perfect recipe for a rough evening for Edward Waters as their six-game win streak was snapped with an 8-4 loss to Embry-Riddle on Tuesday evening at Sliwa Stadium.

Edward Waters (7-3, 3-0 SIAC) and Embry-Riddle went scoreless in the first 4.5 innings, before the home squad added a run in the bottom of the fourth to take a 1-0 lead. The Eagles added three more runs to pad their lead in the bottom of the fifth at 4-0. The Tigers were able to hit the scoreboard twice in the top of the sixth. Caden Hutchinson hit an RBI double down the left field line that scored Daquarius Thompkins, then an RBI fielder's choice from Luis Nunez scored Sebastian Velez to cut the deficit down to two.

Unfortunately for Edward Waters, things went from bad to worse in the bottom of the eigth, when Embry-Riddle plated four runs to make it an 8-2 ballgame. EWU attempted to get off of the proverbial mat in the top of the ninth and made things interesting with a Hugo Schoening two-RBI single that scored Chase Morris and Dwanye Maduro. That would be as close as the Tigers could get as Embry-Riddle came away with the four run victory at home.

Anthony Roman continued his hot start to the season, leading the way for EWU at the plate going 3-for-5 with a stolen base. Freshman Jeremyah Martinez was tagged with the loss in relief for Edward Waters, going 2.0 innings, allowing five hits, four earned runs, and a strikeout. Sebastian Velez started things for the Tigers on the bump going 3.0 innings, allowing one hit, one walk, and three strikouts to earn a no-decision. Luis Martinez Delgado also made an apperance for EWU, going 3.0 innings, allowing four hits, one earned run, one walk, and one strikeout.

Edward Waters will have to quickly turn the page as they will return to the friendly confines of Henry L. Aaron Field at James P. Small Memorial Park, where they will begin a three-game SIAC series against the team they beat in the championship of last year's Black College World Series, Kentucky State. The Tigers and Thorobreds will start their series on Friday with a doubleheader starting at 12pm, then conclude with a single, nine inning affair on Saturday at 12pm.
