Jacksonville, Florida-Trying to beat rain shower that would come later in the day, Edward Waters hosted NAIA member Kentucky Christian in a doubleheader early Friday at J. Gardner "Nip" Sams Memorial Softball Park. The Lady Tigers were able to take care of business, sweeping both games from the Knights, 4-0 and 9-0 to keep their record unblemished on the young 2023 campaign. Additionally for Edward Waters, it is their best start to a season modern era history of the program.
In Game One, the Lady Tigers (6-0) racked up 10 hits, including the first homerun of the season for junior CF
Caitlynne Lamug. Lamug ended up leading EWU at the plate, going 2-for-3 with that homer, RBI, and a run scored. Newcomer
Shai-Ann Currie kept Kentucky Christian off balance in the contest, to earn the victory in the circle for the Purple & Orange.
Game Two saw an early end to the contest after a seven run bottom of the fifth inning gave the Lady Tigers a win via the mercy rule.
Jazmine Lamug led EWU at the plate in the contest going 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI, and a run scored.
Jodasea Peterson earned the victory for Edward Waters, recording four strikeouts and just one hit in the matchup.
Edward Waters wraps up their eight-game homestand on Monday, Feb. 13th against crosstown rival Trinity Baptist at 12:00pm at J. Gardner "Nip" Sams Memorial Park.
