Undefeated Streak Moves To Eight With Doubleheader Shutout Wins Over Trinity Baptist

Jacksonville, Florida-Edward Waters was able to move their school best start to a season to eight consecutive victories and remain undefeated on the year with two victories over city rival Trinity Baptist on Monday afternoon at J. Gardner "Nip" Sams Memorial Softball Park. The Purple & Orange shutout the Eagles in both games, 4-0 in Game One and an 8-0 run rule victory in five innings in Game Two.

Not too much offense was needed for Edward Waters in Game One as the Lady Tigers relied on solid pitching and defense to carry them to their first shutout win of the day. The Lady Tigers hit the scoreboard first with three runs in the bottom half of the 1st on a Tiara Peters two-RBI double and Peters coming around later to score on a passed ball to give EWU a 3-0 lead. The Lady Tigers then added another run in the bottom of the second, when Katie Goodin came around to score on a wild pitch. Jodasea Peterson earned the win in the circle for Edward Waters going 3.2 innings, allowing just one hit and struck out three on the afternoon.

Game Two saw the offense open up a lot more than what was seen in the opener. The scoring in Game Two opened up in the bottom of the 2nd with three runs crossing the plate. Kylah Gardner connected on an RBI single, then later scored on a wild pitch. Nyiha Williams hit an RBI sacrifice fly that gave EWU at 3-0 lead. Brooke Rice hit an RBI single in the bottom of the third to stretch the Edward Waters lead to 4-0. The final shots were fired in the bottom of the fifth inning when the Lady Tigers scored four runs. Jazmine Lamug scored on a wild pitch, Laura Scott connected on a two-RBI single, then Jamiah Holmes hit an RBI single that brought an early close to the contest. Shai-Ann Currie kept the Eagles off balance in the circle with another complete game shut-out, allowing just one hit in the contest.

Edward Waters will hit the road for the first time this season as they will head to Orangeburg, South Carolina to take part in the SIAC/CIAA Challenge, hosted by Claflin University. The Lady Tigers will open play with games against Bowie State and Fayetteville State on Friday afternoon.
