Fairfield, Alabama-After outscoring Miles in the first and fourth quarters, it was EWU's lack of production in quarters #2 and #3 that ultimately did in the Lady Tigers in their 58-49 SIAC road loss at Miles on Saturday afternoon at Knox-Windham Gymnasium.
Edward Waters (3-4, 1-2 SIAC) got their offensive effort started early in the first quarter, shooting 53% from the floor, including going 3-of-6 from three-point range to shoot out to a 19-16 lead. That would be as good as it would get for the Purple & Orange as the Lady Tigers only scored nine and six points in the second and third quarters respectively which would be their undoing in their nine point loss.
Miles (4-1, 2-0 SIAC) outshot Edward Waters 38% (19-of-50) to 34% (17-of-50) from the floor and outrebounded the Lady Tigers 36-29. Turnovers also hurt the Lady Tigers in the contest as 20 EWU turnovers resulted in 21 Lady Bear points.
Kayla Horton continues to pace the EWU offensive efforts, leading EWU with 12 points and four rebounds, while
Sha'Kawanza Brown and
Imani Harris each scored 10 points for the Lady Tigers.
Edward Waters will step out of conference competition on Monday evening as they head across town to face the Jacksonville Dolphins in a non-conference, exhibition matchup. Tip-off from Historic Swisher Gymnasium is set for 6:30pm.
