Fairfield, Alabama-After a tough home loss to USC Beaufort in their previous action, the Edward Waters men's basketball squad faced a tall task on Saturday afternoon, facing the defending SIAC Champion Miles Golden Bears in a conference road matchup. Edward Waters had a much better effort in the contest, unfortunately it would not be enough in a close 76-69 loss to the Golden Bears at Knox-Windham Gymnasium.
Edward Waters (2-6, 1-1 SIAC) faced an early 7-0 hole in the first quarter, but clawed their way back to turn the tide and take a 21-16 lead at the 5:42 mark. The Tigers were able to go into the locker room with a slim 24-23 lead at halftime. Miles (4-2, 1-1 SIAC) took a 35-31 lead four minutes into the second half and built upon that, outscoring Edward Waters 53-45 to escape with a seven point win.
Turnovers continue to haunt the Tigers as 15 critical ones turned into 14 Golden Bear points. Miles barely outshot Edward Waters 48% to 42%, but it was the Tigers that did claim a 35-31 edge on the boards.
Goliath Mitchell. led the Tigers with 19 points, six rebounds and four assists, while
Solomon Campbell,
R. J. Noord, and
Joshton Mincey each had nine points for EWU.
The Tigers step out of conference play for an exhibition road contest against North Florida on Tuesday evening at 7:00pm at UNF Arena.
