Tigers Fall In Exhibition At UNF

Jacksonville, Florida-Edward Waters unfortunately found out why North Florida is one of the best three-point shooting teams in the country Tuesday night in a 99-47 exhibition loss to the Osprey at UNF Arena.

The Tigers (2-6, 1-1. SIAC) took an early 5-3 lead before UNF (5-5, 0-0 ASUN) fired back with a 4-0 run to take their first lead of the game at 7-5 with 16:42 left. North Florida increased their advantage to 10-5, but a 7-0 run from the Purple & Orange allowed for EWU to retake the lead at 12-10 with 14:21 remaining, forcing the Ospreys to call a timeout. From there, North Florida went to their bread & butter, which is their three-point shooting to retake the lead and pull away from Edward Waters. EWU cut a double digit deficit to nine at 38-29 with 1:13 remaining, but a late Osprey run gave the home team a 44-30 lead going into the locker room at halftime.

The second half was a major struggle for Edward Waters as the Ospreys started the half on a 26-4 run over the first nine minutes to create more distance from the Tigers. Edward Waters could not find an offensive groove and North Florida continued to reign down threes, outscoring the Tigers 55-17 in the second half and steamrolling their way to a 52 point home win.

North Florida took a wide advantage in rebounding in the matchup with a 61-34 edge, including a 20-12 lead in offensive rebounding. For the contest, Edward Waters shot 27% from the field (19-of-70), including a rough 17% showing from beyond the arc (5-of-28). The Ospreys on the other hand shot 47% from the floor (36-of-76) and were 40% from three point range (20-of-50).

Freshman guard Jeremiah Kwarteng led the Tigers with 14 points, seven rebounds, two assists, and three steals, while junior guard Goliath Mitchell had 12 points for the Tigers.

Edward Waters will regroup and prepare for their next contest on Monday, December 11th against SIAC foe Kentucky State at 5:00pm at the Adams-Jenkins Complex.
