Huntsville, Alabama-The offensive engine did not get started until second half, by then the damage was already done as Edward Waters dropped a 74-59 decision to Young Harris College in their final game at the Bill Penney Crossover Classic hosted by the University of Alabama at Huntsville on Saturday afternoon.
Edward Waters (1-3, 0-0 SIAC) shot just 21% on 7-of-32 shooting in the first half of play which truly hampered their efforts in the contest. Midway through the first half, the score was tied at 14-14, but a 23-11 run down the stretch by the Mountain Lions (1-3, 0-0 Conference Carolinas) put the Tigers down 37-25 at the break. EWU came as close as three points of the lead in the second half, but Young Harris was able to keep constant distance away from the Purple & Orange, sending the Tigers to their third loss of the season.
Edward Waters only connected on 27% of their shots from the floor (17-for-62) in the matchup, while Young Harris shot 38% from the floor on 20-of 62 shooting. EWU put two players in double figures led by
Cahlib Edwards with 16 points and five rebounds, while
Kristian Ford had 10 points and five boards.
The Tigers will renew an old Northeast Florida NAIA region rivalry in their next action on Tuesday as they head to St. Augustine to battle Flagler College with tip-off set for 7:00pm.
