Columbia, South Carolina-A second half comeback fell three meager points short as Edward Waters dropped a 70-67 road decision to Benedict in an SIAC matchup Monday evening at the Benjamin E. Mays HRC Arena.
The Tigers (4-16, 3-12 SIAC) faced a mountain to try to climb out of at the end of the first half, falling behind by 14 at 38-24. The Purple & Orange turned up the intensity in the second half chopping the deficit down thanks to a late 8-0 run to bring them to within three at 70-67 with less than a minute remaining in regulation.
Tavares Oliver's three point attempt at the buzzer clanged off of the iron, unfortunately send the Tigers to another gut wrenching road defeat.
After a first half that saw Edward Waters shoot a putrid 8-of-29 from the floor and 1-of-12 from three point range, they turned things around in a big way, going 15-of-30 in the second half and 7-of-16 from the bonus sphere. The Tigers had four players in double figures on Monday evening, led by both
Larry Kuimi and
Cahlib Edwards who each had 17 points.
Tavares Oliver finished with 12 points and eight boards, while Byron Abrasms finished with 11 for Edward Waters.
The Tigers will return to the floor on Saturday, February 4th for a 3:00pm home tip against Morehouse at the Adams-Jenkins Complex.
