Jacksonville, Florida-Struggles in rebounding, cold shooting, an inability to consistently defend the three-point shot, and too many points in the paint were a perfect storm for defeat for the Lady Tigers in their 78-72 home loss to defending SIAC Champion Benedict on Monday evening at the Adams-Jenkins Complex.
Edward Waters (8-10, 4-8 SIAC) was widely out rebounded 47-32 by Benedict (7-10, 5-7 SIAC), including a 14-12 deficit in offensive rebounding. The Purple & Orange were also dominated inside with 30 points in the paint for BC to just 14 for the Lady Tigers. Additionally, Edward Waters had an abysmal night in shooting from the floor, connecting on just 31% of their shots to 50% for the visitors and also faced a 30% to 25% deficit in three-point shooting.
EWU was led by
Khadija Smith with 23 points and four rebounds, followed by
Anissa Tuitt with 14 points and five boards, and
Jourdan Avery with 11 points.
The Purple & Orange will look to rebound in their next action on Wednesday evening as they will host AME rival Allen at the AJC at 5:30pm.
