Jacksonville, Florida-An amazing third quarter that saw Edward Waters outscore Allen 28-10, ultimately proved the difference in their 67-53 victory in an SIAC women's basketball matchup at the Adams-Jenkins Community Sports & Music Complex Wednesday evening.
The Lady Tigers (9-10, 5-8 SIAC) were outscored in three of the four quarters of Wednesday's contest, including facing a slight 29-27 deficit at the half. The third quarter started out with Edward Waters dominating with one of their best offensive flurries of the season. EWU went on an 18-4 run over the first seven minutes of the third quarter to put the contest out of reach. Allen (9-9, 5-8 SIAC) never got to within double digits of the lead again and Edward Waters was able to take round one of the hardwood rivalry between the two African Methodist Episcopal (AME) affiliated institutions and snap a two-game losing skid.
For the game, the Purple & Orange outshot the Lady Yellow Jackets 33% to 26%, despite giving up a 52-46 edge in rebounding. Defensive pressure for Edward Waters proved to be key as well, with the Lady Tigers forcing 24 Allen turnovers that turned into 24 EWU points.
Forward
Khadija Smith led all scorers with 24 points and nine rebounds, while guard

The Purple & Orange will return the home-and-home series with Allen on Saturday afternoon in Columbia, S. C with tip time from the John Hurst Adams Gymnasium is slated for 2:00pm.
