PREVIEWING EDWARD WATERS:
The Purple & Orange come into Saturday's contest after a tough 31-28 home loss to Savannah State in their last action on September 10th. The Tigers were driving for what would have been the go-ahead touchdown with less than a minute left in the game and got as close as the SSU 23-yard line. However, a fumble thwarted EWU's efforts at their first victory of the season, instead giving Savannah State their first win on the year.
Edward Waters has been one of the most snake bitten teams in NCAA Division II football. The Tigers have lost their first three games of the year by a combined 13 points. The second half of contests through the first three games of the 2021 season have been a lot kinder to the Tigers as they have outscored opponents 68-43.
EWU's bread & butter seems to be their ground attack. Through three games, EWU is averaging 210.0 yards per contest which leads the SIAC. Senior tailback De'Shaun Hugee leads the way on the ground for EWU with 275 yards, averaging 9.5 yards per carry, and three rushing touchdowns.
On the defensive side of the ball, despite the Tigers' struggles, they have had success in turnover margin as they presently are +4 with nine total takeaways (5 interceptions & 4 fumble recoveries).
PREVIEWING LANE:
The homestanding Dragons are looking to make some serious noise in the SIAC this season after a solid 6-4 2021 campaign under head coach Vyron Brown. LC through three games is 1-2 overall after picking up their first win of the season last week, a 38-6 win over Clark Atlanta.
Preseason First Team All-SIAC running back Ike Brown leads a Lane rushing attack that averages 132.0 yards per game. Brown through three games has 180 total yards rushing on 50 attempts, averaging 3.6 yards per game, and two rushing touchdowns.
Senior defensive end Andrew Farmer is continuing to earn his Preseason SIAC Defensive Player of the Year nod. The Jacksonville native and First Coast High School grad leads the way for LC with 25 total tackles, a nation leading 14.0 tackles for loss, and three sacks.
