Columbia, South Carolina-Edward Waters brought an emphatic close to their five match winless drought on Sunday afternoon with a 12-0 shutout victory over Allen at the Southeastern Freight Lines Soccer Complex.
For the Lady Tigers (2-7-1), the day got started early as sophomore
Kendall Burney opened the scoring with a goal in the seventh minute to take a 1-0 lead. The Purple & Orange doubled their advantage in the eighth minute with a goal from junior
Rayven Norman. Norman found the back of the net again in the 15th minute, giving the visitors a 3-0 lead. From there, the middle portion of the first half belonged to sophomore
Ellie Shurman, who tallied a career her first career hat trick with consecutive goals in the 19th, 22nd, and 26th minutes. Freshman
Sophia Paffrath got in the scoring act with a goal in the 33rd minute, then Shurman scored again in the 35th minute to give EWU a commanding 8-0 lead. Burney recorded her second goal of the match in the 37th minute to close out the first half scoring, giving the Lady Tigers a 9-0 halftime lead.
The Lady Tigers picked up the scoring in the second half in the 53rd minute thanks to a goal from sophomore Claudia Maté that gave EWU a double digit lead of 10-0. Paffrath scored the final two goal of the match to record her first career collegiate hat trick with goals in the 57th and 59th minutes to give EWU the 12-0 lead and the dominant victory.
The EWU onslaught was early and often throughout the match, recording 30 total shots with 24 of them being on goal. It was not a busy day for sophomore goalkeeper
Sheila Pascual as she faced just two shots from Allen that she easily saved to record her first clean sheet of the season.
Edward Waters will head to Winston-Salem, North Carolina next for a neutral site game against Bluefield College on Wednesday at 3:00pm.
