Steven A. González was named Head Cross Country & Track and Field Coach at Edward Waters University on Monday, June 2, 2025, after building highly successful programs at Mandarin High School and Palatka High School for 12 years prior to his arrival on Kings Road.
A proud alumnus of Edward Waters University, Coach González returns to his alma mater bringing over 15 years of championship-caliber coaching experience and a deep passion for mentoring student-athletes on and off the track. With a career rooted in excellence, his teams have earned an impressive 7 conference championships, 6 district titles, and 3 regional championships, producing over 150 state qualifiers, 80 all-state athletes, and 15 state champions. Named Coach of the Year 18 times, Coach González has guided standout athletes like Jaylen Lewis a nationally ranked sprinter, Ryan Lankford, the nation’s top-ranked long jumper in 2010 and Ka’Tia Seymour, the 2016 Gatorade Florida Female Athlete of the Year and nationally ranked sprinter. His impact extends beyond performance; he’s committed to helping athletes understand their influence, take ownership of their growth, and elevate their mindset through discipline and accountability.
Prior to joining Edward Waters University, Coach González served as Head Track & Field Coach at Mandarin High School (FL), North Marion High School, and Palatka High School, where he also coached football and taught physical education and Spanish. His leadership has made a lasting mark at every school he’s served—building not only winning programs but character-driven athletes. Coach González holds a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education from Edward Waters University, is USATF Level 1 Certified, USTFCCCA Technical Certified Coach and USTFCCCA Sprints, Hurdles & Relay Event Specialist Certified. As he steps into this new role, he brings full-circle his journey as a student-athlete, educator, and leader—committed to building a legacy of excellence at EWU.Â
