Angelo Jones was introduced as the new assistant coach of women’s basketball on August 1, 2020. Jones has brought experience and a unique style to work alongside Head Coach Charmaine Wilson.
In his first year as a men's basketball assistant coach at Concordia College in 2017, Jones won a United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) National Championship under the tutelage of head coach current Edward Waters Men's Basketball Head Coach Fred Summers. Jones then followed Summers to Talladega College, where they led the Tornados to a twenty-plus game winning season and also reaching the Final Four of the GCAC Conference Tournament. As an assistant at Talladega, Summers won the 2018 GCAC Men's Basketball Coach of the Year.
The following season, Jones was blessed with the opportunity to join Coach Summers once again as an assistant to men’s basketball here at Edward Waters College where they led the men team to a twenty-plus win season, and also finished in second place of the GCAC Conference Tournament (making school history).
In his first season as the women's basketball assistant coach at Edward Waters, Jones helped lead the Lady Tigers to a 12-5 overall record, the program's first GCAC Women's Basketball Regular Season Co-Championship, and third GCAC Tournament Runner-Up trophy. As was the case at Talladega, as an women's basketball assistant at EWU, Jones helped Coach Wilson win the 2021 GCAC Women's Basketball Coach of the Year award. He also helped aid in two GCAC First Team All-Conference Selections (La'Quanza Glover and Sha'Kawanza Brown), a Second Team All-GCAC member (Emari Bell), two GCAC All-Defensive Team members (La'Quanza Glover and Sha'Kawanza Brown) and the 2021 GCAC Defensive Player of the Year (Sha'Kawanza Brown).
A native of Memphis, Tennessee, Jones graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry from Lane College in 2001. While at Lane, Jones played basketball for the Dragon’s, alongside some of the best talent in the country. Jones served as Captain for two of his years at Lane, while being nominated for many different awards and honors. But the most notable accomplishment, was playing under the watchful eye of Dr. J.L. Perry and Fred Summers.
