Damon Smith is in his first season on Greg Ruffin’s coaching staff at Edward Waters College. This is his first season on the collegiate level after coaching/mentoring quarterbacks on various levels of football in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Smith’s coaching career began at his high school alma mater, Brainerd High School as QB Coach ’03-’05. In 2006, he became the Offensive Coordinator/QB Coach at David Brainerd Christian School (Chattanooga, TN), small 1styear private Class A program. In the 3 seasons, the offense was ranked top 3 in Passing, and their quarterback was ranked in the Top 15 in passing yards and had at least 3 WR’s in constant rotation in the city’s receiving leaders category.
A native of Chattanooga, Smith graduated from Brainerd in 1994 where in his two years of football participation, he received the Team M.V.P. Award, All-City and Metro honors as well as All-State Honorable Mention 1992-1994. After graduation, Smith attended Lane College in Jackson, Tennessee where he played for Ruffin when he was an assistant coach as the team's starting quarterback. Their 9-1 record under head coach John Gore in 1995 still stands as the best record in the school’s history. Lane defeated two NCAA Division 1-AA (FCS) programs that season, both on the road (Mississippi Valley State and North Carolina A&T).
2002, he played QB/WR in the National Indoor Football League with the Tupelo Fireants. He was an 1st Team All-Southeastern QB selection 1,227 yds and 22 TD’s in 10 games.
Smith is a 2002 graduate of Lane College with a Bachelor's of Arts Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies.
Damon is married to the former Kecia Sanders. He has four children, Kamaya (15), Brianna (12) (previous marriage), Cameron (15) and Kortney (17).
