ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — Edward Waters University Women's Volleyball stepped outside of SIAC competition Tuesday evening, falling 3-0 to Flagler College inside Flagler Gym.
The Lady Tigers entered the matchup riding a three-match conference winning streak, but the Saints controlled the evening with set victories of 25-9, 25-16 and 25-13. The loss moved Edward Waters to 4-7 overall, while its SIAC record remained unchanged at 3-3. Flagler improved to 14-2 overall.
Flagler set the tone early in the opening frame. The Saints recorded 22 kills against just one attack error, hitting .500 in the set en route to a 25-9 victory. Edward Waters managed six kills on 39 attempts but committed only one attack error of its own, finishing the opening set with a .128 hitting percentage.
Edward Waters showed more resistance in the second set. The frame featured five ties and two lead changes as the Lady Tigers recorded a match-high 10 kills. Flagler eventually created separation, however, hitting .394 and taking the set 25-16 to build a 2-0 advantage.
The Lady Tigers continued to battle in the third, which featured six ties and another lead change. Flagler's efficient offense ultimately proved too much to overcome, as the Saints registered 17 kills and hit .433 before closing the match with a 25-13 victory.
Brooklyn Jones led the Edward Waters attack with seven kills on 20 swings, finishing with a team-best .250 hitting percentage among players with at least five attempts. Jones also contributed three digs and a block assist to finish with a team-high 7.5 points.
Heylianis Aquino followed with six kills and eight digs, while Jewel Helmuth and Norah Laurore each added three kills. Helmuth also contributed three digs, a service ace and two block assists, while Laurore recorded a block assist. Genesis Melenciano and Zakiyyah Abdul chipped in two kills apiece, with Melenciano accounting for Edward Waters' lone solo block of the night.
Freshman Naraiya Thompson paced the Lady Tigers with 12 assists and also tied for the team lead with eight digs. Shaniah Jones added eight assists, while Dimaliz Figueroa and Aquino each finished with eight digs. Edward Waters totaled 46 digs defensively.
Flagler finished the contest with a sizeable advantage offensively, totaling 54 kills while hitting .448, compared with 23 kills and a .109 hitting percentage for Edward Waters. Giavonna Lowe led the Saints with 14 kills on 20 attempts and a .650 hitting percentage, while Marley Middlebrooks and Jolie Trudeau each recorded 11 kills.
Despite the non-conference setback, Edward Waters remains 3-3 in SIAC play as the Lady Tigers turn their attention back toward the remainder of their 2026 schedule.
Edward Waters will travel to Wilberforce, Ohio, for SIAC Crossover #2, hosted by Central State University. The Lady Tigers will face LeMoyne-Owen College, Tuskegee University and Kentucky State University during the crossover as they look to build on their recent success in conference play.
