BACK-TO-BACK! Naraiya Thompson Earns Second Consecutive SIAC Setter of the Week Honor

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – For the second consecutive week, Edward Waters University women's volleyball standout Naraiya Thompson has been named the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Setter of the Week, following another impressive stretch of performances that helped lead the Lady Tigers to a 2-1 record in conference play.

Thompson continued to establish herself as a key playmaker for Edward Waters, totaling 124 assists, 23 digs, and seven service aces across three SIAC contests. The freshman setter averaged an impressive 9.54 assists per set, directing the Lady Tigers' offense throughout the week.

The Jacksonville, Florida native opened the week with a strong performance in Edward Waters' four-set road victory over Allen University, dishing out 40 assists to help the Lady Tigers extend their conference winning streak.

Thompson followed that performance with a stellar 49-assist effort in a hard-fought five-set setback against Benedict College. Despite the loss, she continued to demonstrate her ability to distribute the ball effectively and keep the Edward Waters offense competitive.

She closed out the week by recording 35 assists in another four-set triumph over Allen University, helping the Lady Tigers bounce back and secure their second conference victory of the week.

Thompson's consistency and offensive leadership have been instrumental in the Lady Tigers' success this season. Her ability to create scoring opportunities for her teammates, combined with her contributions defensively and from the service line, has made her a valuable presence on the court.

The latest recognition marks Thompson's second consecutive SIAC Setter of the Week award, further highlighting her emergence as one of the conference's standout setters during the 2026 season.

Edward Waters finished the week with a 9-8 overall record and an 8-4 mark in SIAC competition, continuing its push through the conference schedule.

The Lady Tigers return to action on Tuesday, October 13, at 6:00 p.m., when they welcome Fort Valley State University to the Adams-Jenkins Complex in Jacksonville for another SIAC matchup.
