Lady Tigers Battle Hard but Fall 3-2 to Auburn University-Montgomery

Jacksonville, Fla. — In a highly competitive matchup on Monday afternoon inside Nathaniel Glover Stadium, the Edward Waters University women's soccer team fell just short in a 3-2 loss to Auburn University-Montgomery Warhawks. Despite the setback, the Lady Tigers showed tremendous fight and resilience against one of the top programs in the region.

AUM opened the scoring in the 21st minute when Michaelyn Manning found the back of the net to put the Warhawks ahead 1-0. The Lady Tigers responded with intensity, and senior forward Dahien Cabrera delivered the equalizer in the 36th minute, rifling a right-footed shot into the top left corner of the net to knot the match at 1-1.

However, the Warhawks reclaimed the lead just before the break when Paula Galan Revuetta scored in the 43rd minute, giving AUM a 2-1 advantage heading into halftime.

AUM extended its lead in the 54th minute on a goal by Aisling Roche, making it 3-1. But Edward Waters refused to go away quietly. Just three minutes later, junior midfielder Ellie Shurman netted her first goal as a Lady Tiger in the 57th minute, converting on a beautiful cross-field assist from Cabrera to cut the deficit to 3-2.

From there, the Lady Tigers kept the pressure on, generating several scoring opportunities in the closing minutes, but the Warhawks' backline held firm to secure the win.

Dahien Cabrera finished the match with one goal and an assist while Ellie Shurman notched her goal as a Lady Tiger. Goalkeeper Olivia Galloway compiled two saves in goal.

Head Coach Marissa Lewis praised the team's fight despite the result, noting that the Lady Tigers matched the Warhawks' intensity and showed growth against a tough opponent."

The Lady Tigers hit the road on Thursday, September 11, for a 2:00 p.m. matchup against USC-Beaufort at FinLand Field in Bluffton, S.C. Edward Waters will look to bounce back and pick up their first road win of the season.
